Individual support to leaders

Being a senior leader can be a lonely place. It can help to have an experienced, external person as a sounding board for your practice. I can assist on an ad hoc, one-off basis, or as part of a multi-meeting relationship.  I call this work 'external support' rather than 'coaching' or 'mentoring' because I don't like those words. But you can call me what you like, within reason. Why choose me? I've had more than 27 years' CEO-level experience across three different countries, and over 14 years' experience as a board director, also in three different countries. I have had hard-earned successes and also made a lot of mistakes. I have a deeply-ingrained capacity to find the learning from both my successes and my failures, and have used the same capacity to draw out the learning from the efforts of the people and organisations I have worked with.  Along the way I have developed skills in applying frameworks and concepts such as the Seven Ss and the Sigmoid Curve, but I've also developed my own unique frameworks that can help you tune in to what is most important to you now and in the future, and how to move towards that. In short, I bring a range of tools and experience that can be helpful to you.  I'm personable, clear, I listen, and I can analyse quickly what you tell me, which helps get the most out of your sessions with me.

One-off external support

You can book me for a one-off meeting. This can be good for: 1. getting an external perspective on how you're approaching and organising your work 2. discussing how best to navigate a difficult issue at work, including interpersonal conflict 3. contemplating a change of job or career. I am confident you will come out of the meeting with helpful insights and maybe a useful new technique you can use going forward. The meeting is confidential and can be at your place of work, or at another public venue that has a confidential space. I don't meet at private venues such as your home. If you prefer, we can meet online for example through Teams or Zoom. I charge by the hour, plus any travel costs and time to get to the venue you choose.

Regular external support

You can book me for a regular confidential meeting. This can helpful when: 1. you want an ongoing sounding board for your work, where the regular meetings can help you stay on track and navigate issues as you move towards the things that are important to you; 2. through reflective practice you want to hone your skills and knowledge at organising your work and workplace relationships; 3. you have it as part of an agreed professional development plan with your employer. Typically, leaders report to boards or more senior colleagues where the relationship does not always have sufficient space and time for reflective practice and professional development. An external support relationship with someone like me gives you the space to talk more freely about your work, your hopes, and your concerns, in ways that are not on-the-record in your formal workplace relationships. Healthy organisations recognise this external support can be an important part of the support and development framework for the organisation's leaders. Measures of success are: 1. you are effectively drawing out the learning from your work and the issues therein 2. you have a clearer focus on what's important to you 3. you feel better-equipped to undertake your work going forward 4. you have acquired some new techniques for thinking about your work, and organising your work and workplace relationships. As with one-off meetings, these regular meetings are confidential and can be at your place of work, or at another public venue that has a confidential space. I don't meet at private venues such as your home. If you prefer, we can meet online for example through Teams or Zoom. I charge by the hour, plus any travel costs and time to get to the venue you choose.
